    PURA Approves Lower Standard Service Generation Rates for 2013

    On November 26, 2012, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) approved the 2013 generation rates for The Connecticut Light and Power Company (CL&P) and The United Illuminating Company (UI). Standard service generation rates for both companies are declining from the rates charged in 2012. PURA also approved Last Resort Service generation rates, the rates charged to CL&P and UI's largest business customers.


    United Illuminating - Standard Service Generation Rates Decline between 9% and 14%

    The standard service generation rate for UI residential customers will decline by just over 1 cent/kWh going from  8.727cents/kWh to 7.6974 cents/kWh. As a result, the generation cost for a UI residential customers taking standard service and using 750 kWh/month will drop by about $7.50 per month or about $90 per year. The generation rates for UI standard service business customers will also decline by just over 1 cent/kWh. UI's standard service generation rates are fixed through December 31, 2013.

    Connecticut Light and Power -
    Standard Service Generation Rates Decline between 8% and 13%

    The standard service generation rate for CL&P residential customers will decline by about .7 cents/kWh going from 8.279 cents/kWh to 7.615 cents/kWh. As a result, the generation cost for a CL&P residential customer taking standard service and using 750 kWh/month will drop by about $5 per month or about $60 per year. The generation rates for CL&P standard service business customer will decline by just under 1 cent/kWh.  CL&P's standard service generation rates are fixed until June 30, 2013, and will be adjusted on July 1, 2013.

    Your Electric Bill - Generation & Delivery Rates

    Your electric bill is divided into two sections: delivery and generation of electricity. The rates noted above only reflect the generation portion of your electric bill  and are the generation rates that will be charged by CL&P and UI effective January 1, 2013.

    Delivery rates will be set by the PURA in mid December.
