The Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) has completed its review of CL&P's plan to install advanced meters. On December 19, 2007, the DPUC issued a Final Decision on the plan.

CL&P had proposed to invest over $275 million in an advanced metering system. The DPUC rejected CL&P's proposal and instead ordered CL&P to study advanced meters and to conduct a rate pilot to determine customer acceptance of innovative rates, such as time-of-use and other real-time pricing schemes.

In a filing dated March 17, 2008, CL&P submitted a proposal to conduct the meter study and rate pilot.

The DPUC conducted a Technical Meeting to review the proposed study.  Based on its review at the Technical Meeting the DPUC directed CL&P to submit a revised proposal.  In a filing dated April 15, 2008, CL&P submitted its revised proposal.

In a letter dated May 2, 2008, the DPUC issued its approval for CL&P to move forward with the meter study and rate pilot.  The approval required CL&P to slightly modify its revised proposal.   Follow the links below for information on this subject.

    2009-2010

During 2009 CL&P conducted a study, called Plan-it Wise, to determine whether customers would change their electric usage in response to different electric rate designs, like time-of-day rates.  Use the link below to access information about CL&P's Plan-it Wise study.

In early 2010 CL&P submitted the results of the Plan-it Wise study and its proposal to install advanced meters.  CL&P's proposal is being reviewed by the DPUC in Docket No. 05-10-03RE04.
