If you have questions about Electric Suppliers you can speak to someone at the Department of Public Utility Control at 1-800-382-4586 or TDD at 860-827-2837.
Are you licensed to do business as a supplier or aggregator in Connecticut?
All suppliers and aggregators must be licensed by the Conneticut Department of Public Utility Control.
Is there a fee if I switch to another supplier or go back to my utility company?
Some suppliers allow you to switch whenever you like and at no charge while others may assess a fee. Be sure to ask.
Are there any early termination penalties?
If there are early termination penalties be sure to ask for complete information about the dollar amount and whether these fees can be reduced or avoided.
What is your GSC rate per kWh?
The supplier/aggregator's GSC rate per kWh is the price to compare against what you are currently paying for generation services on your electric bill.
Is your GSC rate per kWh all-inclusive?
All inclusive means that the GSC rate per kWh reflects the full cost of generation and there are no additional charges that will be added to your electric bill.
If the rate is NOT all-inclusive, ask the supplier/aggregator to list and describe all additional generation related charges that you may be responsible for as well as the price of each charge.
How does your GSC rate per kWh compare to the GSC rate I am paying CL&P or UI?
Most customers choose an electric supplier to get a lower rate. Be sure to ask.
Is your GSC rate fixed or variable?
Some suppliers offer month-to-month rate plans while others offer fixed rates over various time periods.
If the GSC rate is fixed, how long is the rate fixed for?
If the GSC rate is variable, how does it vary? Example, the rate could vary monthly, by the amount of electricity you use, by time-of-day or in other ways.
If your GSC rate changes, when and how will I be notified?
You should know how you will be notified of a change in rates before you sign up with a supplier.
Do I have to sign a contract or other agreement?
If yes, what is the length of the contract or agreement?
What are my monthly savings if I choose you as my electric supplier?
Example: I use about 500 kWhs per month. How much can expect to save?
(Remember, this is an example. Use your own monthly consumption to estimate your savings.)
How long does it take to switch my electric supplier?
It takes one billing cycle to implement the switch. So, it does not happen immediately. The electric supplier should be able to provide more detailed information about this question.
Is a security deposit, enrollment or other similar fee required?
If yes, be sure to ask about the dollar amount, if it bears interest and when and how it will be returned to you.
Is there a credit check, late payment fee or other similar fee assessed?
If yes, be sure to get a list of the charges and what each will cost.
Do you offer any other services?
Some examples include energy audits, conservation services, load management or other energy related services.
