  • Connecticut's Renewable Portfolio Standard or RPS statute requires that a specific percentage of the generation provided to Connecticut consumers be produced from renewable energy sources such as solar, hydropower, landfill gas, fuel cells and other similar sources.
     
    For 2012, the RPS is 16% increasing to 19.5% in 2015, and 27% in 2020.
     
    Annually, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) reviews CL&P, UI and Connecticut's electric suppliers' compliance with the previous years' RPS requirements.  Compliance with the 2007 RPS is currently being reviewed under Docket No. 08-09-15.
