  • Evaluate Alternate Rates

Business Customers

Electric consumption patterns can change over time, affecting your overall cost for electricity.  As a result, it is important for business customers to periodically request a Most Beneficial Rate (MBR) Analysis from the electric distribution company to evaluate whether an alternate rate may lower their electric costs.  Contact CL&P or UI for information about obtaining an MBR analysis.

All Customers - Time-of-Use Rates

Reducing the amount of electricity that is used during periods of peak demand (12 noon to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday) reduces the overall cost of electricity in Connecticut.  You can reduce your peak demand by moving consumption to the off-peak hours, controlling or curtailing use during the peak hours and by using the most efficient products (lighting, appliances, motors, air conditioning and other equipment) during the on-peak times.  Customers that are willing to take these steps may be able to reduce their electric costs by taking service under a Time-of-Use rate, which offers lower prices during off-peak periods.  Contact CL&P or UI to learn more about Time-of-Use rates.
